The new city checklist to take care of

Moving to a different city always has some poetry to it. You are starting a new chapter in your life. From that point forward you will divide your stories into what happened before you moved and after. But, if you want to deal with your relocation properly, you are going to need to put aside the poetic aspect of the move. There are certain things that you need to do in order to properly start living in a new city. And, there are things that you do not have to do, but we advise you to. Things that have, over time, shown to be productive in helping people feel more at home in their new residence. Here is the new city checklist and how to go through it.

    Settle into your home

Ok, so you have finished relocating. You have thanked your movers and packers Florida for their awesome service and given the workers a nice tip. Now what? Well, the first thing you need to do is to check your home. This is especially important if you are renting your place.

    Appliances and furniture

Once you move into a new place you need to check if the appliances and furniture are in good condition. There is a reason why this is first on the new city checklist. If they are not you have two options. You can either plan how and when to change them. Or, if you are renting, you will have to talk to your landlord about it. Do this right away. Even before you start unpacking. If there is something wrong you need to deal with it right away. If you wait it will just get worse and worse. You may even not be able to get your deposit back. The moment you see something is wrong, take a picture of it and contact your landlord.

    Checking if there is water
Checking if your apartment has water and electricity is the first thing on the new city checklist.

    Set everything up

After you’ve made sure that your home is in an acceptable condition it is time to go to the second item on the new city checklist. And that is setting everything up. Start by unpacking your most essential possessions. Plug in your laptop and play some nice music to make the experience more pleasant. If you are not too tired, try to completely unpack as soon as possible. The longer you stall the harder it will be to finish. Go at it at your earliest convenience and make your apartment into a nice home.

This is one of the most boring and jet most important parts of moving to a new city. Depending on whether you moved from a different state or you moved within the state you will need to fill out paperwork for different things. For instance, if you moved your car from a different state you will need to fill out specific paperwork for registering it. Most states do not allow you to permanently drive a car that is registered in another state. You will also need to register your health insurance and register to vote. We know that none of this is fun, but it has to get done. And the sooner you start, the better.

    Find a doctor

Once you move to a new city you will need to change your doctor. Start by talking with your current doctor. See if he can give you some recommendations for different doctors in your new city. Then schedule your appointments so you can find a new doctor as soon as possible. You will also need to update your medical insurance as it, probably, won’t cover you when you change your address. Make sure that you medically covered once you move to a different city. You really don’t want to find out that you are not when something happens to you.

    Finding the right doctor
Health is wealth. Rember that when you move to a new city.

Fun parts of the new city checklist

Now that the boring stuff is done, it’s time to go over the more fun parts of the new city checklist. Everyone likes to feel like they belong in their neighborhood. And if you also want that, you need to take certain steps that will help you settle in.

    Find local services and stores

Once you start living in your new apartment you will soon find out how dependent you are on local services and stores. Therefore, it would be wise for you to seek out the ones you like and do business with them. At some point, you are definitely going to need a plumber or an electrician. There are many that are locally situated and you should ask around if they are reliable. You will also need to buy things from stores and shops, and the only way to find out which ones provide quality service is to look around. A good store should provide you with quality goods. But, you should also feel good when doing business with them.

This is the most fun part of the new city checklist. Once you have figured out your neighborhood it is time for you to start exploring the city. Go out there and be open to new experiences. That is the only way for you to find out what the city is really like. Go to your local bars. Talk to your neighbors and fellow citizens. Explore your hobbies and find places in which you can practice them. Discover all the festivals that are held in the city and see what their history is about. Visit local movie theaters and concerts. Stay active.  The city is there for you to enjoy. But, if you do go at with an open heart, you’ll regret ever moving there.

The funnest part of the new city checklist
Go to as many parties as you can.

    Take care of yourself

Look, we know that moving is tough. Especially if you are moving because of work. What you need to know is that there are always people out there who are willing to help. If you are feeling lonely and depressed, there are support groups you can talk to. If you are part of the military, there are top military movers that will help you relocate. We all find ourselves in tough times, and we should never shy away from asking for help.
